Beauty in the Silence
(A conversation with the Doctor in the Library)
It's the smell he said
The smell of lingering words
Of earth and tree and ink he said
Thoughts of lovers and birds
It's the weight he said
The weight of pages in hand
The lick and the turn for more he said
A promise of distant lands
It's images in my head he said
Roaming on far away shores
The rhyme and the sound and the fury he said
that thrills my heart to the core
But what is the pain in my head he said
The screaming of unspoken words
Dreams lying dormant and dead he said
The force of a silence unheard
The smell of lingering words
Of earth and tree and ink he said
Thoughts of lovers and birds
It's the weight he said
The weight of pages in hand
The lick and the turn for more he said
A promise of distant lands
It's images in my head he said
Roaming on far away shores
The rhyme and the sound and the fury he said
that thrills my heart to the core
But what is the pain in my head he said
The screaming of unspoken words
Dreams lying dormant and dead he said
The force of a silence unheard
Oh, lovely! The stanzas and imagery and that 'screaming of unspoken words' ... truly lovely.

ReplyDeleteOkay, Jenn? This is a wow! That last stanza is particularly beautiful. I agree with Ruth, "the screaming of unspoken words"...that sentence will stay with me for a long time.
